Bikeâ¦babesâ¦and boozeâ¦
Can an angel with blood-covered wings and the devil himself resist temptation or will they risk bringing hellfire down on everything that they love?
Cold. All I can feel is a deep chill blanketing my body. My eyes open to complete darkness as a voice calls to me. Its muffled tones send shivers down my spine with every garbled word. A sense of familiarity floats around me as its words become clearer.
âRun, Dani,â it pleas from beyond the black veil shrouding the room. âEscape while you can,â it continues. Panic courses through my veins. Where in the hell am I? Why canât I see anything? The pleas go unanswered as my voice fails to render sound.
âHelp!â I scream internally, âPlease, fucking help me!â
The voiceâs call fades with each word. âYou need to get the hell out of here, Dani. You need to move. Find a wall and escape,â I coach to myself. A cold chill of air sweeps into the darkness encompassing me as I try to feel the place around me. My fingers plunge into a dense, sticky liquid as I crawl forward causing my body to slide with each movement. A hard surface is finally inching its way under my fingers.
Crawling upwards, I splay my hands against the cool wall. âYouâre on your feet, Dani. The hardest part is over now. Time to find a door or a light switch, something to get us out of here,â my internal coach continues.
Keeping close to the wall, I finally find a switch. Flicking it upwards, the light shines brilliantly. As my eyes adjust to the light, my hands come into my vision. A scream barrels out of my throat when I see the sticky, red blood covering my hands and clothes. My heart races as I frantically wipe the blood away. Blood begins to pool at my feet, inching toward me. Rushing away from the blood, I fall backward into a solid, but warm obstacle. Before I can turn around, hands grasp my arms as a personâs hot breath trails down my neck.
âHello, Dani,â a different voice whispers in my ear. âWelcome to Hell. Youâre mine now,â the voice crackles as my body is pulled into black oblivion.

Excerpt
His gaze softens as he cups the side of my neck. “Jesus, you should never feel insecure. You’re fucking beautiful, Liv, bruises or not. Nothing in the world could ever change that.”
I watch him carefully, his sincerity tearing through my defenses. “You really mean that, don’t you?”
He rears back, the skin between his brows bunching together in deep valleys of confusion. “Of course I do. How could you not know that?”
I shrug. “I don’t know. I guess it’s…” I pause for a moment before deciding to bare it all. “It’s hard for me to believe you still think I’m beautiful despite finding me the way you did.”
Understanding dawns and he quickly shakes his head. “No, not ever. That didn’t change the way I look at you. Yes, it fucking gutted me to see you that way, but not once did I think any less of you.” He pulls me closer while his determined gaze bores into mine. His jaw flexes, the rhythm of his chest growing heavier. “It should have never happened. Nothing so hateful should have ever touched something so beautiful. But make no mistake, Liv, when I look at you, I don’t see the girl I found that day, I see the girl who survived it all. You’re fucking beautiful, inside and out, nothing or no one will ever change that.”
My breath hitches as tears blur my eyes, his words healing my wounded soul. “You make me feel beautiful,” I choke out softly.
“Good, baby, because you are, every inch of you, and don’t ever fucking forget it.” He closes the small space between our mouths, his lips claiming mine in a heated caress as his tongue sweeps in.

★ A Problematic Love Synopsis
Eight years after her fiancé was murdered, attorney Megan Kole has fully reconciled two areas of her life: her intelligent and precocious son who never knew his father and the thriving law practice that is her late father's legacy. The remainder of Megan's world stalled in a paralyzing grief that she effectively compartmentalized until a transfer to Seattle brings a handsome but deeply mysterious billionaire into her life.
Daemon Ros has been an outcast since the day he was born. His parent's cold indifference and their lavish but emotionally vacant lifestyle prompted him to assert his financial independence from a young age. Adoration for his ailing brother is the only connection he allows to penetrate the vault he has built around his heart, until a devoted mom and her enchanting son introduce him the true meaning of family bonds.
But a chance legal encounter where Megan acts as mediator in a Ros family business dispute leads to far more than either expected. When a shocking truth leads to a love affair between Megan and Daemon that is forbidden in every conceivable way, the barely-restrained chemistry that scorches between them threatens an injunction on everything and everyone they hold dear. As pasts cross, memories threaten and lies surface in a trial far more deadly than anything inside a courtroom, an arbitration of the heart could prove the only way for them both to make it out alive.
★ A Problematic Love Excerpt - Their first encounter…
Late the next evening, the setting sun fills my office with a warm glow. I might appreciate the Puget Sound views from my twenty-sixth floor office if I wasn’t in a verbal sparring match on the phone with Daemon Ros’s assistant.
“Mr. Kang, this is unacceptable. Your legal department won’t respond to my calls, and now you’re telling me that Mr. Ros has specifically directed you and his staff not to speak to me?” I wait for an answer but he says nothing. “I would have expected more from a man with such stature. Does Mr. Ros always hide behind his employees this way?”
“Ms. Kole, I… I apologize, but he’s my boss. I have to respect his wishes. I wanted to acknowledge that we received your calls and emails and messages and let you know where things stand.”
I sense I’ve made this man very uncomfortable. Good. Uncomfortable leads to results. “Please do me a favor and deliver this message to your elusive boss.”
“Okay.”
“Verbatim. Tell him he needs to start growing some testicular fortitude and stop shadowing you and the rest of his employees. At the very least, he could have some class and dignify my client’s request with a personal response.”
He gasps then another male voice comes across. “Ms. Kole, this is Daemon Ros.”
My heart skips a beat at his announcement. His voice is smoky, pleasant on the ears; his tone is firm and strong. He has an indistinct accent, maybe European. Makes me wonder about the man behind the voice.
I’m surprised to hear him at the end of the line. If I had known insulting his manhood would get a prompt response, I would have done it long ago.
“Vulgarity won’t get you what you want,” he continues tersely.
“I’ve respectfully tried to reach you through the appropriate lines of communication with no response. I called and sent you repeated emails, left messages at all your contact numbers, and reached out to your legal department—all to no avail. I had to take it to the next level.”
“Are you always this persistent?”
“I’m paid to be relentless not to sit on my ass and expect things to happen. I make things happen.”
“It’s obvious that you are completely oblivious to the kind of man my father really is,” he says, his voice completely void of emotion. “Sure you want to be making things happen for him?”
“Your father prefers to settle this matter out of court.”
“Is that what he told you?” he chuckles, his words stained with more than a hint of sarcasm.
“Well, I hate to be the one to tell you this Ms. Kole, but that’s the only way he will get me to turn over any shares of this company to him. Looks like you’ll be busy. Start the paperwork.”
“You don’t mince words, Mr. Ros.”
“And I didn’t mince words with my father’s legal department the last time I spoke to them,” he replies coolly. “He wanted his shares back, and I said I wouldn’t sell.”
“Your father was adamant about settling this amicably.” I lie. “Can we meet and discuss this, with your father and your legal counsel present? Perhaps over lunch? My treat.” I aim for charming. I hope I don’t sound like I’m begging.
“Ms. K—”
“Mr. Ros. Anywhere. Name the place and time, and we’ll be there. It would be so much better if we could all sit and talk and come to some sort of agreement about this. Think of all the time and money saved if we avoid court.”
“He can take me to court if he wants,” he says vehemently. “He has no legal grounds. I obtained those shares legally.”
“Mr. Ros, you’ve never shown any interest in running this company with your father, yet you now have controlling interest. I sense there is more to this. Why are you doing this? What exactly is it that you want?”
Silence fills the line. I’m not sure if it’s because I touched a nerve or because he’s thinking. I lower my voice. “Please. Let’s talk. I know your time is valuable, and you’d prefer to spend your days running your business and enjoying your family instead of rounding up witnesses, meeting lawyers and all the other complications and delays that happens with the courts. Reaching an agreement is less stressful on all parties involved.”
“Let me think about it. In a few days, someone will contact you with my decision.”
Yes! I hope that decision is to meet, because if it’s not, I have no idea how I can legally get my client those shares back. Might this be the first case I lose?

Her right arm snakes around my neck, her other hand on my heart. The rain falling around us is getting heavier, but I don’t hear the rain anymore. All I can hear is my heartbeat thumping in my ears, like it always does when she’s this close to me. “We need to get in and dry before we both catch our deaths.” I walk up the steps then cringe as I realize what I’ve said. She’s still crying but not as hard as she was. “I didn’t mean…” I begin. She’s cried herself to sleep. The only noises coming from her as I walk up the stairs are little sobs now and again. I kick the door open and lay her on her bed. Looking down at her, I debate whether or not to take her clothes off. I should really take her wet clothes off, but I think that would be inappropriate, so I get an extra thick blanket from the closet and place it over her. As I turn to leave, she whispers in her sleep something that stops me midstride. “Stay.” I sit down beside her and she drapes her arm across my torso. I tense for a second but relax after a beat. I wait until she’s fully asleep before I leave. I didn’t want to wake her by moving her arm off, and if I’m honest, I kind of liked it there. It felt right. I fall onto my bed after taking a hot shower. I stare at the wall opposite my bed, at the painting Sup and I painted a few years back. It’s the club’s emblem, a woman holding a dagger, with wings, in only a bra and panties. It’s the eyes I always stare at. Blue. I remember Sup being confused about why I had to have them blue. Much like my tattoo. I still have an obsession with blue eyes. The thing is, I’ve no idea why. Why blue eyes? Author Bio: Allana lives in Dundee, Scotland with her husband and two daughters. Harry Blacksworth is rich, handsome, the ultimate playboy with a killer smile and a clever wit. He’s fought it, denied it, ignored it, but the damn truth won’t go away: he’s fallen in love. And just when he’s accepted that fact, Greta Severenson, the only woman he’s ever trusted, breaks his heart. Christine Blacksworth and Nate Desantro beat the odds when they fell in love and married. But staying married is threatened when the foundation behind every good relationship—trust—is challenged. It may take two trips to that godforsaken town or ten, but Gloria doesn’t plan to fail. When she finally confronts Miriam Desantro, the “other woman”, Gloria discovers more than she ever wanted to know… or admit. Angelo ‘Pop’ Benito is the Godfather of Magdalena. Nothing happens in that town without his knowledge or approval. And Pop doesn’t do anything without a long sit down with his dead wife, Lucy, and a half dozen pizzelles by his side. But when a man finds the right woman, anything is possible. Add a baby to the mix; well that’s pure “hero” material. Christine will offer her share of support and wisdom to Tess and stand up to an old troublemaker in the name of family and friendship. She’s more comfortable with a spreadsheet than a conversation and doesn’t trust easily, especially where men are concerned, most notably the good-looking, smooth-talking ones like Ben Reed. When city boy Ben Reed arrives in Magdalena, he’s not planning a long-term stay in a town filled with too many busybodies and too little excitement. He just needs things to settle down in Philly for a few months before he returns to his old life and his plan to win back his ex-wife. But once he gets to know the people in this town, he starts to care about them; one in particular—Gina Servetti. The longer he’s around her, the more he realizes she’s so much more than a woman with a scowl and a sharp tongue. She’s real and honest, and as afraid of trusting as he is. But can Ben and Gina open up and take a risk for a chance at real love? Well, if the rest of the town has anything to say about it, and they always do, this couple will take the big leap and end with an “I do”! And would the story be complete without checking in on Harry Blacksworth’s latest debacle…ahem…adventure? Harry’s moved his brood to Magdalena and is taking advice but thankfully not fashion lessons from Pop Benito. That spells trouble on so many levels. Oh, but it’s going to be interesting… Join me as we peek into the lives of some of our favorites: Pop Benito, Lily, Nate and Christine Desantro, Harry and Greta Blacksworth, Mimi Pendergrass, Bree Kinkaid…and many more. Can the residents of Magdalena help them get it back? On the day Michael Androvich stands at the altar before family, friends, and most of the town of Restalline, Pennsylvania, he’s prepared to pledge his life, love, and fidelity to the woman who owns his heart. There’s only one thing missing—the bride. Elise Pentani loves Michael Androvich truly and completely, but there’s a tiny piece of her that believes he’ll fall back into his “bad boy” ways. When a threat from his past visits her the night before she and Michael are to be married, Elise lets doubt rule and skips her own wedding. Nursing a broken heart and determined to forget the woman he can’t forget, Michael heads to Magdalena, New York to secure a business deal for his family’s lumber company. He’s not prepared for the endless questions and inquisitive nature of the residents who remind him an awful lot of his hometown. Just when Michael has gotten the town to accept the fact that he’s not talking about his past or the reason for his surly disposition, his ex-fiancée shows up with an apology he doesn’t want to hear and certainly doesn’t want to believe. So much for the town leaving him alone; everybody has an opinion and they’re all more than anxious to share it. There’s no way the residents of Magdalena can ignore these two broken-hearted souls. Michael and Elise have “need help” and “belong together” stamped all over their sad faces. Add that to Pop Benito’s determined matchmaking skills and Lily Desantro’s clever curiosity, and this couple might just get that second chance… Note: Michael Androvich and Elise Pentani are secondary characters in Simple Riches, Book Three of That Second Chance Series. The books in this series are standalone works that are tied together by the belief in the beauty of that second chance. Michael and Elise won’t be the only ones visiting A Family Affair’s Magdalena from That Second Chance Series. Here are a few more, though not necessarily in the order listed:
A Family Affair: The Promise Book 7 A lot has happened since readers left town in A Family Affair: Winter! Bree Kinkaid is dealing with heartache and betrayal the only way she can—denial. Her friends can’t help her, she won’t listen to her parents, and she rejects offerings of support and sympathy from the town as she attempts to hold onto that magical life she wanted. But when a stranger shows up at Bree’s doorstep with information about her husband, she can’t pretend any longer. And in case you were wondering what happened to Gloria Blacksworth’s notebook, it’s still resting in Nate Desantro’s desk drawer…but not for long. Gloria might be dead, but the notebook continues to leak distrust and ill will into the community, and someone’s got to stop it! There might be only one person in town equipped for the job—any guesses? We’ve also got a new man in Magdalena, one badly in need of a second chance… Grant Richot sprinted through life, a boy wonder with talent, intelligence, confidence, and charm. He never doubted the world awaited him, just as he never doubted the right woman would come into his life—but only when he was ready for her. Anyone before that was simply preparation for the one. How wrong he was. Years and a tragedy later, Grant arrives in Maggie Finnegan’s hometown of Magdalena, New York—broken, uncertain, and searching for that second chance with the woman he cast aside. But Maggie’s no longer naïve and impressionable; she’s a confident, competent widow with a child, who has more at risk than another broken heart… Note: For a richer “A Family Affair” reading experience, make sure to read Pulling Home, Book One of That Second Chance series. It is the prequel to A Family Affair: The Promise, where you’ll learn Grant Richot’s story. Big, dark secrets about his family are revealed in this book, but that doesn’t mean he knows about them…but it also doesn’t mean the reader can’t know, right?! He’s had one of those and it ended badly. He’s come back to Magdalena out of duty, not love for the town that drove him away with rumors and judgments. Angie Sorrento is in Magdalena to do a job, not find a husband. She almost had one of those, until he dumped her days before the wedding. Roman’s father has health problems and his last wish is to see his son settled with a wife, a child, a second chance at a life that doesn’t include city life and flashy women. There’s only one person in town who can make the impossible happen. Angelo “Pop” Benito, the Godfather of Magdalena, is the wiliest matchmaker in the Catskills and if he sets his mind to it, an old man might see his wish come true. Oh, and remember Gloria Blacksworth’s notebook, the one filled with enough destruction to bring down Magdalena? Roman Ventori belonged in Chicago, or staring back at her from the insides of a magazine cover, not standing outside his father’s grocery store, arms crossed over his broad chest, waiting. And not too happy about the waiting either. The pacing gave it away, back and forth like a trapped lion. He didn’t see her coming from the side parking lot as he began another round of pacing. Angie made her way toward him, sucked in a deep breath and willed her voice to remain even. “Roman Ventori?” The man turned and stared, six-foot plus of muscle and annoyance zeroing in on her with eyes darker than ink. Those eyes widened when he recognized her, the mouth flattened, the brackets on either side, a deep slash. “You.” He ran a hand through his hair, blew out a sigh. “I should have known.” She matched his sigh, tilted her head to look up at him. Damn, but he was a tall one. “Should have known what?” “That my old man would pull this. How much did he pay you?” “What are you talking about?” The tabloids should get this charmer on tape. It would mark the end of Mr. Beautiful’s lovely persona. Angie guessed the man hadn’t wanted to come tonight. Too bad. She needed photos so she could do her job, and if the only way to get them was after closing time in the company of Sal’s son, then that’s what she’d do. “Why would your dad pay me?” she asked, determined to get an answer. But the man said nothing, merely unlocked the door and flicked on the lights, leaving Angie to follow, camera slung over her shoulder. When they reached the customer service area, Roman Ventori turned to her, his massiveness dwarfing her breathing space and said, “My father paid you to get in my line of vision, didn’t he?” “Line of vision?” Angie scrunched up her nose. “For what?” He scowled, narrowed his gaze on her. “You know damn well for what. He had a heart attack and now he’s gotten it into his head that he wants to see me settled before he dies.” “Settled.” Settled? As in married, with a family? No. No. “Yeah, that’s what he said, and then he started dropping hints about this nice little Italian girl he’d met who’d come to town to make a miniature rendition of his store, said I should escort you around and see what I could see. Whatever that means.” He flipped on more lights, let out another sigh that sounded like pure disgust and continued, “Ignore whatever he told you. I am not looking for a girlfriend and I’m sure as hell not looking for a wife.” “What?” Had he just said wife? Angie moved toward him, hands on hips, scowl on her face to show her equal disgust and said, “Mister, I am not looking for a boyfriend or a husband. I don’t even want a dog. You got that?” The nerve of some people. “I’ve come to this town to do a job, so I can get paid, period.
