WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, strong language, drugs and alcohol, dubious consent, and graphic violence. Big River Management Area. Greenwich, Rhode Island â June 2nd, 2013, night Lillith âSebastian, behind you!â The shot fires the moment that he turns around. My scream isnât as fast as the bullet approaching us. A quick shove and Sebastian has me tumbling to the ground. He grunts and roars as the bullet tears through his shoulder. He slumps, reaching for the wound. That bullet was aimed at me, not him. He saved me from being killed by taking the bullet himself. Still, his eyes are on me, focusing solely on me. âRun. Now.â I scramble to my feet, grasping the opportunity to flee. Without looking back, I make a run for it. I donât know where Iâm going or what is happening, but I know that I have to get out of here. Some part of me is worried about Sebastian and another part wants him to be killed. I donât know which side to pick. Itâs then that I hear them yell at each other. âWhat the fuck, Lewis!â Itâs Sebastian. âSorry, but you moved! I was aiming for her.â âFuck you! You fucking shot me! And now she ran again!â Sebastian yells. âGoddammit, I had her.â âWell, you shouldâve taken her when you had the chance.â âI told you that I could handle this. Now let me do it before I shoot a fucking bullet at you, too.â âFine, but if she gets away, you know itâs your head thatâs on the line, not mine.â Their voices grow fainter and fainter, and I canât help but notice how Sebastian weaves his way out of this like nothing happened. He wanted me to run, and yet he tells Lewis a very different story. Somethingâs not adding up. My breathing is loud and rampant and my legs are shaking, but I keep on running. After a while, I sink to my knees, unable to suck in another breath. It takes me a while to breathe. When I stand up and try to walk again, Iâm tackled to the ground. I squeal, fighting my attacker. âShhh!â âGet off me!â I wriggle until Iâm facing him. Only then do I notice that itâs Sebastian. I try to slap him. âAsshole!â I only get one hit in before he grabs both of my wrists and pins them down on my chest. âStop. Listen to me.â âNo! First, you shoot at me. Then he shoots at us, and then I hear you yell at each other that youâre both hunting me? Iâm not going to spend any second longer with you!â I push him away. Surprisingly, he flinches and backs off. That was too easy. He frowns, grinding his teeth. âDonât fucking run from me. Run away from them, but not from me. Not anymore.â He grabs his gun from the ground and points it at me. âHow can I trust that you wonât just use me and then kill me somewhere in the woods anyway? Somewhere no one can find my body?â âBecause I fucking need you,â he snaps. âAnd yes, I will kill you if you donât come with me. I will not let anyone else have you. Ever.â I swallow as he gets off me. He helps me up from the ground, too, even though heâs making a face while doing it. The muscles in his arm are weakened. Red stains darken his coat. He watches me with raised gun, pinpointing my next movement, which I donât even know. All I hear are his shallow breaths and groans. âYouâre hurt.â âDoesnât matter.â âYes, it does.â âNot now,â he growls. âWe have to get out of here.â âRight.â I turn around, trying to walk away, but he grabs my arms and holds me down again. âI didnât say you could go without me.â He pushes the barrel of the gun into my back. âBut why? Why do you care? Youâre one of them!â âNot by choice.â âSo, youâre not out to kill me?â âNo.â âBut you are one of them. So then, you call them and tell them to stop.â âNo, I canât, and it wonât help one bit. Once they have something in their minds, they have to do it. Itâs in their nature.â I groan and sigh. âWhat do they want with me then?â âEither they kill you or they take you with them. You jumped from the train when I told you not to. This is what happens when you donât listen to me.â âTheyâre coming after me? For running away from you?â âExactly, and neither of us wants you in their claws,â he says. âNow, are you going to come with me quietly, without a fight, or do I have to shoot you in the leg and carry you over my shoulder? Because, by God, I will do it if it means that youâll come easily.â He takes the barrel away from my back as I let out a big breath. I nod. âGood.â He hauls me with him, and I almost tumble over from the ferocity in his stride. âJesus, I canât believe youâd go that far to keep me away from them.â âIf thereâs a problem, I solve it. You were the problem, and I solved it.â âWith a gun? Are you insane? You couldâve called after me instead of shooting.â âAnd you would not have believed me if I had told you the truth. Trust me, Iâve tried before.â Heâs not tried it with me, so Iâd rather not think about what it means instead. I canât even fathom the fact that he was helping them do this to us, let alone doing it to other women. âIâd rather hurt you myself than let them do it. Theyâd hurt you in ways that you canât imagine, and I will not let them touch my property.â âI am not your property!â I tear myself away from his grasp. âYou were mine the moment that you stepped into my building. Now, come with me. Unless you want to die.â I stare him down, contemplating if I could ever trust him again. I shouldâve never trusted him in the first place, so why should I now? How do I know whatâs the right choice? âSebastian!â My eyes grow wide at the sound of a shrill and harsh voice calling out Sebastianâs name. Sebastian halts, his eyes skimming the forest like a hunter on the lookout for potential game. âWho was that?â I whisper, following his gaze. âIs that the same guy from before? I recognized him.â âLewis. One of them.â He directs his attention back at me and holds out his hand. âCome here. Now.â The way he talks to me, like Iâm some sort of pet that heâs commanding, makes me seethe, but I hold my tongue and grab his hand. Right now, getting out of here alive is more important than prying information out of him, but I will definitely come back to this topic. Iâm not done with him. Far from it. He has a lot of explaining to do, and I wonât stop asking questions until I find out the truth. I struggle to keep up with his pace as he drags me along. We push our way through the dense forest, avoiding stumps and small rocks whenever possible but inevitable scrapes and cuts happen. Short bursts of pain to my legs and feet from running make me cringe, but I try to ignore them. Only the moon lights our path, but Sebastian seems to have adjusted quite well. His movements are hasty, without error, and I find myself questioning whether heâs done this âwhether heâs hunted girls in the dark before. However, now is not the time to think about things like that. After what seems like an hour, we finally reach the road, but itâs midnight and thereâs not a soul in sight. Itâs then that Sebastian releases my hand and lowers his gun. âStay here.â He fishes his cell phone out of his pocket. âDonât move.â I nod, wrapping my arms around my cold body. Shivering, I gaze at the trees behind us, expecting someone to appear at any moment. âWeâre here,â Sebastian grumbles into his phone, and then he checks a peculiar device that hangs from his neck, which I didnât notice before. âDivision road. The coordinates are 41.64 latitude and -71.59 longitude.â He puts his phone back into his pocket then sets his scorching gaze back on me. With a grunt, he grabs my hand and starts walking. âWhere are we going?â He doesnât answer as we keep walking down the road. Out of nowhere, a car seems to be racing toward us. For a second, I believe itâs coming straight at us for a hit and run, but then it stops and the car door opens. âGet in,â Sebastian says as he hauls me to the door. I step into the car as Sebastian walks to the other side and slides in. âThanks, youâre a lifesaver.â âAnything for you, Sir,â the man behind the wheel says. âLetâs get out of here,â Sebastian urges. The driver nods and closes the blinds between us. Suddenly, Iâm aware of the fact that Iâm alone in the backseat with the man who just tried to shoot me. I swallow away the nerves as he sets his gaze on me. The air between us grows thicker as the seconds tick by. I try to ignore it, but once he slips closer to me, itâs useless. âTell me where youâre taking me,â I demand, pressing my hands down on my lap as if it would keep him at bay. I feel vulnerable, threatened, and stripped of everything that makes me human. Freedom has been taken away from me, but by God, I will fight to regain it. At the bottom of the well, there is only one way to go up, and that is by clawing your way out. Iâll do whatever is necessary to get back to my own life and help Ashley. Anxiety storms through my head, causing irrational thoughts to take the upper hand. The urge to flee becomes too great. I move my hand to the door and start pulling on the handle. It wonât open, so I slam the window. âLet me out.â âCalm down,â Sebastian says, placing his hand on my leg. I swat him away. âDonât touch me.â He winces from the way I say it. No wonder. I feel grossed out and dirty that he touches me the way he does. As if heâs some sort of disease. It does feel like Iâm surrounded by death. âStop,â he says calmly. âIt wonât help you.â âJust let me go then.â âI canât do that and you know why.â âI can take care of myself just fine. I have two legs, a healthy set of lungs, and I can run like hell, so Iâll get myself to safety just fine.â âNo, you wonât.â His fingers return to my leg and dig in, squeezing me. âYour legs are strong, perfect for fleeing, but theyâre still no match for men with rifles who know how to shoot from a distance. Youâd be easy prey. The only one whoâs ever allowed to hunt you down is me.â His touch becomes lighter again, softer, as he starts rubbing my leg, warming it up and creeping me out at the same time. It feels like heâs petting me. âI want you to be safe,â he says, âto be okay. That was always my plan.â I turn my head toward the window and look outside. Now that I know the full truth, itâs like I have even less of a chance to get my freedom back. I canât give up. I just canât. So I force myself to continue ravaging this car, kicking and shoving, pulling out everything I have, just to make a point. I will not fucking give up on my life or on Ashley. The strong Lillith is back in full glory and Iâll be damned if I lose that part of myself again. âYou had to go and resist â¦â Sebastian grumbles, and then he grabs me by the waist and pulls me toward him. Something sharp is pointed at my neck. His knife. âI told you what would happen if you kept on fighting me,â he whispers in my ear. The blade is painfully sharp, and I can feel it cut into my skin. I squeeze my eyes shut. âStop!â âNo, not until you stop fighting and let it go.â âI wonât.â âThen I donât have any other choice.â With the knife, he creates a line down the base of my neck and onto my shoulder. I yelp from the sharp pain, but gasp when I feel his hot mouth press down on my skin. He sucks, his tongue dipping out to lick me. He hums against my neck, holding the knife close to my vein as he kisses the blood off my skin. âHmmâ¦â He groans in such a dirty way, it sounds as if heâs going to come. âDelicious.â A red mark is left on my skin as he retreats. Licking his lips, he says, âAs expected.â âYouâre disgusting â¦â I murmur. âDisgustingly aroused,â he says, biting his lip. âI want another taste.â He dives in again, but I manage to push him away. âNo!â âYes â¦â He keeps coming, biting my shoulder, and I squeal. âPlease!â âWhat?â He kisses my skin and then bites me again. âPlease ⦠stop,â I say, blinking away the impending tears. âOh, but thatâs impossible now that Iâve tasted your blood. You are so deliciously riveting ⦠Iâll never have enough.â Iâm so sick to my stomach that I could throw up. Although Iâm not sure whether thatâs because of him or because of the fact that I just faced death. âPlease ⦠I donât want this,â I say, feeling humiliated for having to beg him again, but I want this to stop. I need this to stop. âBut I do ⦠and that is where I hold the power and you donât,â he says, twisting the blade in his hand. âJust stop ⦠let me be ⦠for just a few minutes,â I plead. âJust let me sit here in peace.â âAnd you will stop fighting? Stop trying to trash my car?â His tongue darts out again to lick my skin, sending shivers up my spine. âYes.â I sigh, moving as close to the window as I can manage, far away from him. âGood.â Suddenly he slides away again, back to his own seat. Fazed, I turn my head and gaze at him, then at the wound on my shoulder, which is still oozing blood. He just bit me and now heâs suddenly done? This was all a trick to get me to be quiet. âNow weâre both bleeding,â he muses. From his corner, he smiles at me. He brings his finger to his face and swipes up a drop of blood left on his chin, brings it to his parted lips, and licks up my blood from his finger like itâs a lollipop and heâs savoring the taste. I cringe a little. âNow be a good fairy and sit still.â SNARE (Book 1) Amazon | iBooks | Barnes&Noble | Kobo | Google Play | Goodreads SEIZE (Book 2) Amazon | iBooks | Barnes&Noble | Kobo | Google Play | Goodreads Giveaway! At age thirty-five, he's made millions as a top-selling Ann Arbor real estate broker and has the right connections to close a deal by any means necessary. With his rugged good looks and compelling personality, he has a virtual black book most men would kill for and he uses it often, never settling for one woman for very long. While his D/s past remains buried, exactly where he wants it, an undercurrent of boredom and dissatisfaction runs through his life now. A disastrous experience years earlier made him swear off the whole scene, but the more Jack suppresses his natural Dom, the more his frustration grows. Sara Thornton, a rookie in the real estate game, has fast-tracked herself to the top of the Ann Arbor market. Her life reflects a disciplined and focused routine, exactly the way she wants it. However, as her career takes off, the fulfillment she seeks remains inexplicably out of reach. The one thing she knows for sure, she will not join the Jack Gordon groupies in her company, no matter how tempting that might seem. A chance encounter, then a difficult transaction, throw Jack and Sara together and the sparks fly high and hot and often. Forced to confront the compulsions that gain momentum with each sizzling encounter, their relationship seems to spiral out of control until Jack finally admits what he needs, and shows Sara what she's been missing. Sweet Equity Jack Gordon thought heâd finally made it. He had a wildly successful career, money in the bank and even returned to his life as Dom, putting an end to a string of unfulfilling sexual encounters. Now that he's made the ultimate commitment to Sara Thornton, he believes all is right in their world. However, a series of misunderstandings and a dose of self-fulfilling prophesy bring his perfectly crafted house of cards tumbling down around him, forcing him to confront lingering misgivings about marriage and trust. Could those be the only two things he can never achieve? Sara struggles with her intense need for Jack and her desire for less volatility in her busy life, two goals which appear to be mutually exclusive. Although willing to put in the time and emotional effort to make their relationship work, she finds it futile and frustrating, littered with clashes thanks to near-identical personalities and temperaments. Given Saraâs history, easing back into the comfortable status quo becomes easier than fighting a war with the one person who should be her safe haven. But will the easier choice satisfy her the way only Jack can? Is her "war" one that comes from without or within? Buffeted by circumstance, temptation and distraction, Jack and Saraâs tenuous relationship crumbles, sparking a continuous quest for the ever elusive: trust, love and acceptance. By the time they rebuild a foundation for renewal, fate has other plans. This leaves them both reeling, once again questioning their destiny. Closing CostsLove conquers all? Not likely, according to Sara Thornton. She's spent eight years coming to terms with the new parameters of her life while resigning herself to the idea that âhappily ever aftersâ are best left to fairytales. Sales manager for her successful real estate office and juggling an added element of responsibility she never thought she'd face, Sara continues to struggle with the men in her life. Love, for her, has only meant hurt, broken trust and anger; all of which sheâs completely banished from her life, so she claims. Jack Gordon has come a long way since his early days of obsession with Sara. As the general manager of Stewart Realty, his own level of responsibility for the well-being of others has ramped up. Heâs even honed his caretaking skills, now that he has someone who loves him unconditionally. Continuing to invest effort and rebuild their relationship, he and Sara grow close as friends. Despite this, his ultimate question remains unanswered; the one he keeps asking, no matter how many times she says no. Sara isn't prepared for the keen focus of his need--to have her back, once and for all. Her stubborn resistance nearly rips both lives apart The epic conclusion to The Realtors series, Closing Costs brings Jack and Sara truly full circle. Proving that the heat of lust and obsession; the need for control and to be mastered in many areas of life can lead to love âsurprising you when you least expect it â if you will only allow it.
